General Information

General Information

Dangan NS is a Catholic primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Meath. Ms Aoife Ryan is the school’s administrative principal. We have nine mainstream classes, an autism class, two Special Education Teachers (SET), one shared Special Education Teacher, one part time EAL (English as an Additional Language) teacher and four Special Needs Assistants (SNA).

School Hours

School begins at 9.00am with Junior and Senior Infants finishing at 1.40pm. All other classes finish at 2.40pm. There is yard supervision from 8.50am.

Entry to the School

Anyone arriving late or needing information during the school day should go to the main entrance and sign in at the office.

Our secretary is in the office every day from 8.50am. The school office phone will be monitored between 9am and 2:30 pm each day.

Pupils Leaving School Early

The school must be informed in advance of a child being collected early. This can be done via Aladdin Attendance Notes section, click the “My child will be collected early” option. Parents/guardians calling during the day to take pupils home early for any reason must report to the secretary’s office and sign their child out of school.

Absences

If a child is absent from school for any reason, a note of explanation should be given to the class teacher or using Aladdin Connect. If a child is absent for a total of 20 days or more during the school year, the school is obliged to notify the National Education Welfare Board. For further details about school attendance, please see our Attendance Policy in the policies section.

Supporting your Child’s Attendance (Advice from Tusla)

  • Establish a good routine in the mornings and evenings so your child is prepared for the school day ahead.
  • Make sure your child goes to school regularly and follows the school rules.
  • Ensure your child arrives at school on time – not late.
  • Arrange dental and medical appointments outside school hours when possible.
  • Always inform the school if your child is absent due to illness – this should be followed up with a written note when your child returns to school.
  • Take truancy seriously – if your child is not attending school as you expect they may be putting themselves at risk – Who are they with? What are they doing?
  • Take family holidays outside term time.
  • Talk to your child about school and take an interest in their school work (including homework).
  • Attend parent evenings and school events.
  • Praise and reward your child’s achievements at school.
  • Always support school staff in their efforts to control difficult or challenging behaviour.
  • Discuss any problems or difficulties with the school – staff are there to help and will be supportive.

Enrolment

Parents should complete an application for enrolment form and include a birth certificate with their application. Completing an application for enrolment form does not entitle the child to a place in the school.

In the event that there are more applicants than there are places, the Board will allocate the places as per the enrolment policy.

Provision of Textbooks

The Primary Schoolbooks Scheme was introduced in 2023, to provide funding for schools to purchase schoolbooks, workbooks and copybooks for all pupils in primary schools. All schoolbooks remain the property of the school and are on loan to pupils for the school year. More information on the Primary Schoolbooks Scheme 2026/27 can be found here.

Parents will receive separate Stationery Lists which will be released in June each year. See current stationery lists here.
