This month, the children in 2nd class adopted a Desk Pet to look after during class! We had an Adoption Day when children applied for which pet they would like to adopt. Each child then adopted their chosen pet, named them and filled in an adoption cert for them. Each pet was given a plastic box to live in and all children followed some simple rules to ensure they weren’t distracted from their work!
Every morning and evening, ‘Animal Control’ collected up the Desk Pets for safe-keeping for the evening. We had a Pet-Time Out area and a Pet Hospital in the room, which luckily didn’t need to be used much! Twice a week the children exchanged their Desk Pet dollars for a new accessory for their pet. They also designed their desk habitat and made sure their pet’s home was cosy for them.
The children had a great time telling their Desk Pets their daily news and taking them on play dates with other pets in the room. Our daily Desk Pet activities was our favourite time of the day and we look forward to bringing our Desk Pets home for the summer!
